Join us in helping 100,000 indigent students get registered for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Who we are

'Help In the Mirror' (HITM) is an initiative endorsed by The West African Examinations Council to help indigent students from more than 21,000 WAEC recognized public secondary schools across Nigeria register for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) every year free of charge.
Every year, a large number of students with the capacity to excel at their exams miss out on the opportunity to write their final examination due to financial difficulty. With your help, we hope to cover the cost of registering for this examination for 100,000 young lives and set them on the path to attaining tertiary education.

This initiative is proudly supported by WAEC Infobox, Edutopia and Ovueta. The Selection Process.

The Selection Process

Each principal of the more than 21,000 public secondary schools nationwide will nominate 10 indigent students for evaluation by the 8 member “Help in the Mirror” selection committee using the candidates’ continuous assessment score report submitted by the principals.

The committee is made up of:
2 Senior WAEC Staff , 1 Representative of Federal ministry of Education, 2 Members of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), 2 Representatives of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Executive Producer of WAEC INFOBOX.

Who Are The Beneficiaries?

The indigent student whose condition is regularly worsened by the poor level of assistance he or she can receive especially in a typical academic environment, for who the thought of how to pay school fees, buy textbooks and above all keep in touch with student life while in school has always remained a harrowing experience.

An indigent student is generally identified as one that is poor; probably due to lack of parentage or that the parents or guardian lacked the means to fund his or her academic or intellectual pursuit. Similarly an indigent student is in most circumstances in a school in Nigeria and possesses good academic performances, which incidentally due to poor financial state, could not be realized except with external assistance.

We hope you will join us in this effort by making a contribution to register 100,000 students each year.
